What Customers Say About Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry:

A painful tear slid down my cheek and my lips trembled.'I'm sorry. The story is told through the eyes of Cassie Logan who at the innocent age of 9 does not yet fully understand the prejudices that face her, the people she has come to know and love. 'She d-did, Pa. Jeremy appeared frightened too.

I had read this book when I was in school and I fell in love with it. M-Miz. R-right now, 'fore y'all come, she did-'Mr Simms turned an angry gaze upon his son and Jeremy faltered, looked at me, and hung his head. It is a book set in the 1930's and talks about racism, dynamics in family relationships, friendship, social class, respect, pride and trying to live peacefully in times of hardship.

'I-I apologized already.'Jeremy seemed relieved that I had spoken. Lillian Jean.'No day in all my life had ever been as cruel as this one. It is a time when black people are not regarded on equal footing as the white folk. A little taster from the book; I stared up at Mr Simms, frightened.

Taylor did an EXCELLENT job capturing a time when the country was at war with each other. Mildred D. Now at 23, this is still my favorite book. I first read this book back in 1996 when I was 10 years old in the 5th grade. I loved it then and I love it now.

OK.BOOK.Not something I would have just bought and read on my own.It was for a school report.

I honestly believe that everyone should read this book and reflect upon the experiences of this family. I would recommend this to anyone. 20 stars out of 10. After reading this book, I am a better person. It opened my eyes to the experiences and lives of African Americans during the thirties.

I found it to be subtle in its message on race relations of the times, without being overtly judgemental. The message comes through loud and clear. I read this book because it will be assigned to my son, who is a freshman in high school. The black family was potrayed with dignity that overshadows the anger that the reader feels on their behalf. I look forward to him reading it himself, and hope that many thought provoking discussions follow. I have heard of it, but never read it. I think that it will give him some heightened sensitivity to racial prejudice, without being sidetracked by horrific violence.
